Embracing Maximalism

I don’t know about you but in my head we’ve had about 10 years of Scandi inspired minimalism taking over style. And I’ve loved it, and fully embraced every moment. It’s been safe, stylish, and easy.

But I’ve reached a point now where I’m bored of not buying the things I fall in love with because they wouldn’t fit in with my ‘capsule’ wardrobe (which never really existed anyway). As my confidence as a person has grown I’ve noticed my style has got more confident too. I’m ready to take risks with my style, and let my sartorial choices reflect my personality. Standing out from the crowd doesn’t have to be a thing of nightmares, because it’s not always for negative reasons.

What I Wore

Culottes – Bershka / T-shit – Brandy Melville / Coat – Topshop (similar) / Cardigan – Vintage / Shoes – Keds (C/O)

There are certain items that you see and just fall in love with. I’ve always been drawn to luxurious fabrics and detailing: velvet, embroidery, beading, and fur are everywhere this season. These three statement items are some of my favourite things I own, and all have helped me get over my fear of wearing anything too garish or that might make me stand out.

A year ago I never dreamed of wearing culottes, and always thought they’d make me look short, or like I was wearing pajamas, but now I have several colours and styles (black, pink, black) and these are just the latest version I’ve added to my wardrobe. Likewise this coat was bought on a whim when I fell in love with it and just wanted to own it. I half thought I’d never wear it, but putting it on every now and then made me realise that standing out isn’t always a bad thing. Now I love being dressed differently from everyone else, and find real joy in styling my statement pieces to suit my casual style.

What do you think of my Maximalist look?
