It’s Lovely Weather for a Sleigh Ride…
Its finally arrived. The perfect time of year. (Feel free to dispute this statement at a later date – I’m sure I will be myself after the third family argument and the post-mince pie guilt kicks in!) But I love Christmas week. Everything is just more magical, everyone is happier – if a little more stressed than usual – and almost all of us are looking forward to some time off to catch up with family and friends.
I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most Christmassy cities you’ll find. There are giant trees in every square, lights lining the streets, food markets popping up just about everywhere you look and the scent of mulled wine in the air. It is so festive in London at the moment, I don’t even mind popping into Selfridges on a Saturday afternoon when you know there will be carol singing and christmas-land on the fourth floor.
Ghenet and I took a stroll round the Natural History Museum last week, we paid Dippy the Diplodocus a visit, and then watched everyone trying to stay up on the ice rink whilst we drunk hot chocolates (or ho-cho for any Gilmore Girls fanatics out there). I wore one of my many Christmas outfits I’ve picked up in recent weeks, and this is one I so nearly took back as it just didn’t feel very ‘me’ but I decided not to in the end. Sometimes it’s nice to feel a little bit less like yourself and little more like Alexa Chung, which is only proven by the fact that I’ve barely taken it off since I cut off the tags!
Our little outing really got me in the Christmas spirit, and I’ve been embracing the season all week!
I think I’ve finally picked up all my gifts, and I’m so looking forward to sharing them with people over the next few days. They are all wrapped up in brown paper with pretty ribbon, and as soon as I can trust Sylvie not to rip them open they will be under the tree!
This week I’m going to be seeing family, and friends, and trying to motivate myself for the new year. I’ve been a little bit stuck in a rut for a few months, and although I’m not a fan of the whole ‘new year new me’ thing, I do think there is something nice and cleansing in being able to turn the page on a whole new year.
I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and get some time off to enjoy it!
